Julie,
I love the use of ipods in the classroom! I think what you are doing sounds
very exciting. Recently I read an artlicle in the paper that some schools are
using them with special ed kids and kids that have a special need (ELL; 504
plans etc) to do testing in the classroom. The test is scanned into the
computer and then put onto the ipod. The kids are able to hear the test read
while listening on the headphones. This allows them to stay in the classroom
to have the test read aloud without any disruption to the other students.
Everyone in my school that I have talked to about this loves the idea, but no
one thinks that we could ever get the funding to pay for the forty that we
would need. I am in a school of 100% free and reduced lunch, so I know that
the kids couldn't bring in their own. How did you pay for the ipods that you
use, Julie? Does anyone know of any funding sources to apply for technology?
I've tried the state and there are no grants for technology at this time. Any
suggestions?
