I think I can get away with some things but not using some other  text.  I am 
supplementing the small group with vocabulary instruction,  graphic 
organizers, etc.  I am not sure about sticky notes, mainly because  my class is rather 
immature and I can't trust them to work independently unless  they know that 
they must show me something when they are done.  I would not  have the time to 
model and demonstrate sticky notes correctly, either.  We  do have an 
Assistant Principal who is constantly in our rooms during the  literacy block 
"checking things".  She checks our written objectives,  etc.  
 
Our school is not making AYP, and of course this must be the fault of the  
teachers, never mind the children come from single parent homes, where mom  
probably didn't graduate hs and their favorite channel on tv is BET.
