Hi Rosie,

I understand that you are teaching in an extremely
oppressive situation.  But I wasn't suggesting that
you use alternate text.  If you are REQUIRED to use
HM, can't you simply use that text to model what you
want them to do?  Some of the lessons in the TE are so
basic and easy, that you could teach them (since
required) and still have time for decent strategy
instruction on another day. Would your asst. principal
have an issue w/that?!
 
I feel bad b/c your message sounded discouraged, and I
certainly get why...keep up the good fight!  I'm sure
you are making a difference in the face of much
adversity. Your kiddos are lucky to have you!  And
besides...it's almost winter break!! :o)
