Ben,

There is SO much good stuff online that I don't think you need to purchase
software! I have not looked at http://downloads.com, but there could be free
programs there that fit what you are looking for.  Also, have you heard of
Star Fall?  It is my favorite early reading site http://www.starfall.com
There are other web sites like this also.
