[MOSAIC] Sensory Images

I've been so busy this week that I am seriously behind in my reading/response.

I like to use Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs for using sensory images. The story is perfect for visualization. I read it the first time and ask the students to close their eyes and imagine what is happening. I stop and ask them what they would smell, hear, etc. I have them draw pictures of the story at certain points. We share our pictures, and then I have the students read the book on their own so they can see the illustrations, etc. We discuss the differences in their perceptions and the illustrations in the book.

This is always a popular story, and the kids revisit the book many times afterwards.
