They are awesome thinkers at a second grade level but are in  the fourth
grade.

 

 

I have students who are awesome thinkers at third or even higher level (I
teach third)-but they decode-slowly-at second grade level-some even at first
grade level.  On TAKS type materials-and I try to get the most interesting
stories I can find-they bog down at the longer passages with the decoding.
