I bought a book, D is for Dancing Dragon, by Carol Crane last fall. It is an Alphabet book, but has many different layers of difficulty, combining simple rhymes with expository text, which make it a perfect book for your needs. It has beautiful illustrations and interesting facts. Carol led a session at a conference I attended, and told about the research that went into the book. It is filled with a great deal of factual information about Chinese culture. It's published by Sleeping Bear Press (www.sleepingbearpress.com)

  Hope this helps!

I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for literature on China that
would be appropriate for 4th graders....low performing 4th graders?

How children learn is as important as what they learn: process and content go hand in hand. http://www.responsiveclassroom.org
