What is the title of Tanny's book, and what grade level does it address? I must have missed something. Does anyone have lessons or ideas for comparing Rylant's books? I saw it somewhere and can't find it. Thanks in advance.

Heinemann is the publisher. I just bought this book last Friday, and I'm implementing her suggestions already. It's very easy to read and use. It's worth every penny!

IRA's most current Reading Today newsletter has a good article on the
investigations into Reading First, and I think there is other news online at
IRA's website.

I have found Rigby to be an excellent guided reading source and their new
"Literacy by Design" series has modeled, shared, interactive, and guided
reading components as well as a writing component. I have seen samples of
the program at a conference and was quite pleased with their visuals
(charts, posters, graphic organizers, and blackline masters, etc) for each
of the reading strategies. We're having a sample set shipped to our school
to examine it in depth, but my first impression was, "Wow!" You can check
it out by copying and pasting in this address in your Internet browser:

Anyone have first-hand experience with this new program?

I have to add that I have read Tanny's book and it is great. The suggestions are so practical. As I read I kept saying to myself "why didn't I think of that" It really help make the strategies concrete for the kids.

Hi - I'm a grad student and I've been listening in on your
conversations.

Just wanted to say thanks for sharing this site - I really like the
