Hi Sharif,
Try looking at the 5 facts of fiction on www.ttms.org I have found it to be
very helpful to students in understanding character development. I also try
to show students that they can identify a theme by looking at character
change. (What does the author want you to learn as a result of the change
in character?)
As far as non-fiction goes the Comprehension Toolkit (Stephanie Harvey) is a
valuable resource. The texts are geared toward 3-6th grade, but we have
used it with 7th and 8th grade students. It is a very valuable resource.
