Lots of times, I prefer to use whatever books that go
with the content or theme that I am teaching. For
example, I am teaching Determining Importance using
the Toolkit, and for the first lesson, I am
substituting a book about the westward movement. This
way, I am not only teaching the strategy, but am also
building background knowledge for our unit. I will
still probably use Now Let Me Fly, b/c I really like
the story and so do the kids, but I find it very easy
to use any quality text w/the toolkit.
