[MOSAIC] teaching strategies-Charlotte's Web

The first line of the book, " 'Where's Papa going with that ax?' said Fern to her mother as they were setting the tabel for breakfast." is one of the strongest, and most memorable first lines I've ever read. It's a good example for visualization, connections, prediction, questioning, schema, metacognition, even talking about author's craft. So, depending on the age of the students, whether or not they've read the book or seen the movie, and how much strategy instruction they've had would determine how I directed the conversation.

Can you share some examples of how you use the strategies. I will
begin teaching Charlotte's Web next week. Thank you.

and day, to make you like everybody else -- means to fight the hardest
battle which any human being can fight, and never stop fighting."
