I thought it was about time I wrote down a few of my thoughts. I have
been a member of the Listserv for about a month or so. Wow - I am so
impressed with all you dedicated people out there. I am a Learning
Support Facilitator in the area of literacy (I work with teachers and
students K-12, co-planning, co-teaching, teaching model lessons,
facilitating workshops...) in a rural school division which surrounds
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. ( I know that's a mouthful, but after a
while it just rolls off your tongue!) This is a new position in our
school division. In fact, there are 8 of us LSFs who work in various
areas: numeracy, literacy, technology and curriculum. One of the
things that our board has provided for the teachers is 600 half days of
LSF access time for the school year. Teachers can request these days
and subs are provided for them so we can plan together, provide PD, etc.
We call these days opportunities to come together as "inspired
communities of learners". So of course, after reading Mosaic of
Thought, I was so inspired. In February we are beginning a study group
with this book. I will also be working with three schools using The
Comprehension Toolkit as the resource. It is so interesting reading
everyone's contributions to this listserv because it really shows how we
all have similar concerns and questions about schooling, education, and
of course, reading comprehension. So thanks for all your input, ideas,
and encouragement and I will let you know how things are going.
Is anyone going to the IRA conference in Toronto? Perhaps we should
have a "Mosaic of Thought" meeting?!?!
