Actually, I was thinking that they are not made better. Many of the older books I have are made of very cheap paper, which is quickly disintegrating.
Kim, I agree with you about the older illustrations on the covers. Many times I have various versions of the same book, and invariably, kids selec the one with the most "modern" cover. Even though the same words are on the same pages, those who ended up with the older copies are always asking to borrow the other student's books! During lit circles they also say things like - "I'm not sure it says that in my copy, let me see yours." LOL!
