Hi Sally,
I just got my copy yesterday. After all the wonderful reviews of Elaine´s book I decided to go ahead and order my own copy. Can´t wait to read it. And, while most of it may not be new having it all in one place is a real asset. Thanks, Elaine!

I just finished reading Elaine's book Smart Answers to Tough Questions. I
was awake at 5 a.m. And couldn't put it down. Oh my gosh Elaine - what a
great gift to teachers and coaches and all of us in the literacy community.
It's not that I didn't know the information and practices you presented. I
agreed whole heartedly with your answers so in that way nothing was new.
But here you've done an incredible job of collecting the research, the
quotes, the cites. And as in your other books, you've done it very wisely,
citing a range of sources, especially the NRP report itself and major
educators/researchers who contributed to that report. There is no way
anyone can accuse you of being one-sided!
You've presented it very clearly, without dense explanations. I am in awe of
the way you were able to do this - simply, clearly without dumbing it down!
This should be SO USABLE. I want every teacher I know to have this in their
hands. And I want it given to every principal and literacy leaders in a
district.
Thank you Elaine. And for all of us, I know we all spend way too much on
books and it could be tempting to skip this one ( I was tempted but really
wanted to see it and am I ever glad I did). This one is a practical tool in
our fight for sanity to rise to the top in our schools.
Sally
