Yes,  it is a written comprehension assessment- written retelling of the 
text, predictions, literal comprehension questions, etc.
This would not be used as a writing assessment.  However, Joetta Beaver 
(author of the DRA) does have a DWA (Developing Writers Assessment) 
published.
