Our sixth grade team just finished a memoir unit and the following books were good mentor texts.
 
Sequential or narrative structure  (one topic, one moment)

Thundercake by Patricia Pollaco
Saturdays and Teacakes by Lester Laminack
Owl Moon by Jane Yolen  (maybe not a true memoir but it worked)
 
Descriptive structure  (one topic, many moments)
 
Roxaboxen by Alice Mclerran
When I was Young in the Mountains by Cynthia Rylant
Halloween by Jerry Seinfield
