[MOSAIC] Accelerated Reading

Thank you, Bill, and all of the rest of you who replied to my query about AR.  It is good to hear other perspectives - that's what conversation is all about, right?  I have a few more questions.  Has anyone purchased the tests that assess higher level skills? What's your impression?  Here's a scenario:  you move to another school which does not use AR.  Would you recommend it to your staff?  If you had this amount of money to spend, would you invest it in AR or in something else?  (Besides a winter holiday!)
I totally agree with your statement - any program can be ineffective if there is an ineffective teacher or leader.

AR also has tests on higher level skills, but they cost extra.  It is great 
as an aid to your reading instruction, but take care it doesn't become a 
case of the tail wagging the dog with students reading for points only.  I 
use the strategies in my classroom, but AR is only a part of the 
instruction.  Many schools think it's an easy program and doesn't require 
any effort on the part of the staff.....it can be used in such a manner, but 
it isn't effective that way......

......but any program can be ineffective if there is a ineffective teacher 
or leader....
