I have to complement everyone on the respectful way we continue to deal  with 
tough and emotional issues related to reading on this listserv. There are a  
variety of opinions on AR, DIBELS and many other topics and I have been 
thrilled  to see that those disagreements have been handled with professionalism.
 
Having said that, I feel a responsibility, as a new moderator filling in  
Ginger's very big shoes during her leave, to respectfully request that we  
consider the intent and purposes of this list as a place to discuss  comprehension 
strategies. I am not saying that these off topic discussions  shouldn't happen 
at times....I have been a part of some amazing conversations  here on this 
list that were not directly related to comprehension.   Comprehension instruction 
is indeed a part of a bigger picture and I know that  there are so many 
talented people on this list who can provide advice on  thornier issues related to 
reading instruction. 
 
Since I haven't seen much discussion on comprehension strategies for a  
little while, I worry that we might not be meeting the needs of all of our  members 
who come to this discussion board for ideas on comprehension teaching. 
 
Can I offer a topic or two to get some conversation going???
How about some new books you have found that are good to model or practice  
strategies....
How have you changed what you are doing in the classroom this fall based on  
what you read in the new editions of MOT or STW?
Tanny recommends art prints and songs in her book....who has tried this? I  
am planning on doing the salad lesson later this week and hope to follow up 
with  some of her other recommendations...
