I, too, feel that many of strategies I teach my students to use when reading are difficult to do on a computer screen. They can't highlight, underline, write notes, etc. I also feel that it becomes a test of perseverance (my biggest gripe). I routinely have 5th graders trying to read and respond to Beowulf and other texts far beyond their abilities. Some just give up and click away for the rest of the test. I've never seen a test shut down and have had students complete the test in record time!

impressed by it. The test is completed on the computer so many of the
reading strategies the kids are taught goes right out the window when they can't
highlight or make margin notes on the test. Supposedly the test does not allow
the kids to randomly guess at answers, it will shut down if they start randomly
guessing. We had students do this and the test never shut down on them. I
also found the scores to be inflated and the information not very useful.
