[MOSAIC] Need info on Donald Leu

Joy,

Just from reading the information on that link - I want to go hear him
speak!!  It looks as if he has really researched the "new" (on-line/ and
technology-enhanced) literacies, and that is a topic I am fascinated by
at the moment.  I also noticed that he was elected to the Reading Hall
of Fame of the IRA last year.  WOW!!  I've never heard of him before,
but now I want to know more.  So - will you please go and bring all of
your new learning back here and share with us?  

Just something to consider:  As a teacher, I have been coaching myself
in how to be a "good" attendee at a conference/session/presentation.  I
used to feel that it was a waste of my time if I didn't walk away with a
packet of materials, a list of resources, ready-to-go resources, and/or
a renewed passion for teaching.  Now, I try to appreciate all the genres
of professional development and the way they each support my various
roles as a teacher.  

Some may help me to develop as an effective practitioner, others may
help me to enhance my critical thinking skills, a few open my eyes to
new ways of planning creatively, and some rekindle my passion for
learning and sustain my energy to teach.  However, to be quite honest, I
must admit that the most difficult sessions for me to appreciate are the
ones that (in this age) are the most critical for me to be attending. 
It’s the research-based/scientific study ones that I have a tendency to
avoid.  However, I always find myself better for having been there.  I
may not be “fired up” when I leave, but I do feel fortified and
confident.  I understand the “why” of things and I feel ready to defend
my right to make instructional decisions as an informed educator.
