[MOSAIC] OT First or second grade?

I taught first for 3 years and then moved to second. Here's my take on it. First grade is teaching children the logistics of reading. They are like sponges but need lots of nurturing and support. In second grade, they are more independent. They need reinforcement in comprehension since decoding skills are strengthened in first. Personally, I miss my babies. I miss the music I did with my first graders and supporting beginning readers. So I would have to say that it depends on what you like. Search your heart and see what it is you like in teaching. Second grade may be your perfect fit. For me, I can wait to get back to first or K.
Good Luck,
Kendra in NC

I've taught first grade for 30 years and have an opportunity to move to 2nd. I'm really having a difficult time deciding. Do any of you have any suggestions? For those who have taught both, which do you prefer? Thanks!Patti
