[MOSAIC] Basal in Readers Workshop?

I don't know what grade you teach, but I can tell you what I used to do in first grade with a Scott Foresman basal. We just "had to use them somehow," so this is it -- I taught the kids how to read using trade books and every now and then during the year each child read the anthologies right straight through on his/her own. They liked the pictures and the "heft" of the book and the stories were worth one read-through for sure. Not worth what we spent on them, but probably worth the brief time it took on the children's part.
