B,
I would encourage you to help her select books that interest her,
but keep in mind that often if she choses books above her grade
level, the content may not be appropriate for a 2nd grader. Once
she is able to select books she enjoys, I would focus on the deeper
comprehension component. Is she receiving good comprehension
instruction in her classroom? If so, focus on that strategy, but dig
deeper. If not, then introduce a comprehension strategy and stick
with it until she is proficent with it. Then move on to another. Be
sure to have her respond to her reading in writing, using some sort
of a reading response log.
Another question for you: How is her writing? It is also above
grade level? If not, then I would divide my time with her on reading
and writing. Since they are reciprocal, one should reflect the other.
I hope that is helpful!

Hello,
I am currently tutoring a 2nd grade girl as part of a field experience for a literacy class.
She is very bright and reads and writes slightly above grade level.
Any suggestions for books, activities or lesson plans is appreciated.
Thanks
B
