Patti~
Whenever I have to make an important decision, I make a pro/con list. This
helps me to make a choice that I can feel comfortable with. Without knowing
much about your situation these are the pros/cons I see:
Pros for first grade:
If you've taught 1st grade for 30 years, you've got the hang of it, and
are a pro! You see the enormous growth, you can mold them, and you are
familiar with the curriculum.
Pros for second grade:
If you make the move to 2nd grade, you can concentrate a bit more on
comprehension and take the students to another level.
Cons for first grade:
It is a lot of work and energy!
Cons for second grade:
You have to learn a new curriculum, create new materials, and work
with a new team (which could be positive or negative). After 30 years,
it's a BIG change.
I've heard that "odd" years are learning years, and "even" years are
review years.
Good luck deciding. Remember, you've got to do what's best for YOU!
Keep us posted on your decision!
:) Mary

2nd. I'm really having a difficult time deciding. Do any of you have any
suggestions? For those who have taught both, which do you prefer?
Thanks!Patti
