Dear Fellow Teachers, I requested last week on line, just as an aside, a request for some advice on dare I say it? EDM. Being relatively new to the site I stupidly did not include my private emailing address to begin with, later did, and did not expect the discussion to become what it did. I made the initial request because in just weeks I have come to respect the opinions, discussions and general friendliness of the group and if anyone goes back to my original post, it was an 'aside'. I live in a very remote area, away from the 'cutting edge' and am after all the information I can get to benefit our students here. I apologise most sincerely for not recognizing that this is a site that 'thousands view' with a 'reputation' and for not sticking to the subject. I would like to thank the number of you who emailed me off the mailing list here, names I have actually never seen posted at all, but obviously caring and thoughtful educators who were and are interested in sharing their knowledge and expertise. It's funny how this has all lead to a new thread that could very well be the start of a fantastic conversation and that is, 'reading comprehension' in mathematics....but do I dare suggest it. Not I, she cried. Happy Sunday everyone.

understanding deeply in the content areas,
So is there no reading in the content areas?
Or is that where understanding is most critically neglected?
Are we playing into it by neglecting it? Or pushing it aside?
I teach a class in Content Area Reading at the university level. Our text is
