[MOSAIC] Building stamina

I agree that many of the kids who do poorly on these year end tests do so  
not because they can't read or comprehend, but they just get tired and give  up.
 
Any suggestions out there for how to build stamina throughout the year  
without killing them withmore of these boring test examples?  I tried  using a 
chart  graphing their minutes- think that came from here or Daily  5- but that 
still doesn't mean they are reading for meaning.
