I have an extensive classroom library set up, but I don't have any books leveled. They are organized by genre: picture, poetry, science, social studies, chapter books, etc. Within those genres they are organized by topic. I can't imagine leveling all of them and I am not sure that non-fiction needs to be leveled especially when it is often used for research projects. I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions as to how to make this job doable if in fact it is necessary. My thinking is that children go to the library and we teach them how to choose a book that is right for them. I am wondering why the same can't be expected inside the classroom. Thanks.

To feel most beautifully alive means to be reading something beautiful, ready always to apprehend in the flow of language the sudden flash of poetry. ~ Gaston Bachelard ~
