[MOSAIC] Cornerstone Literacy

Hi

After 3 years, it was hard to tell if Cornerstone made a difference with test scores but I saw a difference in my classroom.  Unfortunately most of our teachers were very resistant to cornerstone and fought any changes.  Our school was very "old school" and most of our teachers had never even heard of readers workshop and were not familiar with teaching the comprehension strategies so it was a huge leap for us.  those of us who did embrace it, liked the results that we saw.

One thing that I think people were pretty good about was changing the classroom environment.  Teachers set up reading areas and organized their classroom libraries in book bins.  Our district decided to abandon Cornerstone which isn't too surprising. They have a reputation for dropping things before giving them a chance to really work.  Test scores didn't go up enough and I think it became a little political.  Some Cornerstone principals/practices went against the programs that our district was telling us to use.

Hope this was helpful.  Let me know if there's anything else you want to know

Cami

Did Cornerstone make a difference in the student's performance? Didi your
school change the environment of the class rooms? Why did your school
abandon Cornerstone?
