XTREME SKIPPING

28 04 2008

Skip it loud,
Skip it hard,
Oh, no, I got hit by a car.
Legs all thrashed,
Feeling weak,
As I lay in the hospital bed.
Two weeks later, recovered and feeling great,
Hanging with my friends, found a great skipping spot.
THUMP POP, owww, my leg.
Now I’m back in my blood-soaked hospital bed.

Waiting

28 04 2008

(A “found poem” from Chapter 13 of Crispin, by Avi)

I stumbled
I stayed
In a sweat from fright
Too timid to press on
Stiff in limb
Chilled in bone
Numb in thought
I sat
Head tucked
Within my folded arms
Waiting…
A spurt of hope
I stared into the
Branches above
The light was dim
The solitary connection…
To my past
Sorely disappointed
I stayed
Too timid to press on

Peace

28 04 2008

Why can’t our people
Get some peace?
Sittin’ at home
Can’t sleep
Wonderin’ if my cousin
Will make it home safe.
Guess I’ll never know,
Just sit at home and pray.

28 04 2008

Raekwon Raekwon
He’s our man he can’t do it
No one can
Shoot it
Make it
Shaking in the stands
Listen to the music
Of the wild bands
Songs songs
Is our game
Fighting Tigers
That’s our name
Basketball Basketball
It’s the best
Making shoots while playing chess
Chess Chess
Almost the best
But… not yet
Mr. Hoh Mr. Hoh
Can we play friend or foe?
NO NO

Lacrosse

28 04 2008

Love to play
An amazing game
Crashing into one another
Respecting the other team
Officials calling a fair game
Scoring with skill
Speeding down the field
Excitingly crashing into the net for the rebound

Lacrosse is my life! (along with soccer!)

A Run On The Bases

28 04 2008

WHACK!!
I smash the ball to the warning track in the outfield!
I round first base not looking at the coach!
I run as fast as a cheetah to second.
I get a stand up double that drives in two runs.

I look towards the third base coach.
He gives me the sign.
First pitch and…WHOOOSH!
I steal third.
The ump yells, “SAFE!!”

I wait.
“BALL ONE! STRIKE TWO!”
The pitcher gets the ball.
He turns his back.
I take off…
The dust clears…

“SAFE!!”
The crowd roars like it’s a major league game.

All I care about is my run on the bases.

Scarecrow

28 04 2008

Nowhere to go
just standing there
is a tiny scarecrow.

Made out of hay
his work is done.
Let’s say Hooray.

But it isn’t just play.
It takes hard work
to scare a crow away.

First Game

28 04 2008

I come in to the smell of newly cut grass
Take in the aroma of fresh
Roasted peanuts
Just coming off the grill
Fans waiting to see the players
Little kids
Having the time of their lives
Gloves are out ready to catch a homer
from Ryan Howard
I sit down
The Phillies game starts
My first game

Sleepover

28 04 2008

Hannah
Emily
Brittny
Morgan
Katie
And me
Out till ten
With the weird guys
Who acted like “boa constrictors”
Poses on the trampoline
Hangin’ with Jake and Jon
Waiting for someone who never showed
Texting Shawn and Dylan
Eating ice-cream with our faces
Chin freezes (!!!)
Taking an hour to pick out a movie
Never watched it . . .
Emily talks in her sleep
Eight days . . . tweedle tweedle tweedle
Throwing pillows at Katie’s head
And waking her up
Hannah grabbing her foot
Fell asleep at four in the morning
Running around like idiots
Pillow fights
(more like pillow wrestling)
Bike rides
Sliding down skateboarding ramps
Eating MANY cookies
Shoving cupcakes in Brittny’s face
Cupcake facials!!! Time to go home
I’m lovin’ sleepovers!

If I Were My Brother’s Mother

28 04 2008

If I were the mother
Of my very evil
Brother

He’d be grounded everyday
He’d do lots and lots of chores
Without any pay

I’d put him to bed at six on the dot
And wake him up at five
With pans and pots

And when he would fail
I’d send him
Off to jail

But I’m only his sister, ready and set
Because I don’t have power . . .
Yet
