Magic
How does magic look?
The little boy asked the fairy.
The fairy said it looked like a great sparkling in the air,
Rich with all the colors of the rainbow,
And so real, you could smell them.
How does magic smell?
The little boy asked the fairy.
The fairy said it smelt like roses,
And daffodils,
Rich with all the perfumes of nature,
And so thick, you could taste them.
How does magic taste?
The little boy asked the fairy.
The fairy said it tasted like chocolate,
Or cake,
Rich with all the wonderful tastes,
And so real, you could feel them.
How does magic feel?
The little boy asked the fairy.
The fairy said it felt like fun,
Or running through a sprinkler,
Rich with all the feels in the world,
And so real, you can hear it.
What does magic sound like?
The little boy asked the fairy.
But the fairy would not answer,
Because she was gone.

In Rags But Perfect
There she sits,
Her face as lovely as the dawn.
Even though it is smeared with dirt,
And her clothes are of the poorest quality.
She is no model
In a glossy tabloid magazine.
She is just an ordinary girl,
Living in poverty.
But yet,
She loves her life,
And thinks she shall never want for more.
Even though she is a street child
Dirty, unkempt, inelegant, ugly,
She is beautiful.

Mirror
Although you cannot speak,
We interpret you words of truth as lies.
We think you show us what we are not.
In your smooth, silver surface.
Merely,
You show us what we are
On the surface.
You don’t press ideas on us.
You show us.
We put the ideas on ourselves.
Mirror, Mirror on the wall,
You are the downfall of all.

Sugar
A sugar sweetness,
Resting in my mouth.
Slowly, delightfully,
It dissolves.
Then all that is left,
Is an aftertaste,
Of a sugar sweetness,
Resting in my mouth.

Alleged Freedoms
We’re supposed to be
A nation of freedoms,
A nation where you can have your own beliefs,
A nation where you can be who you want to be.
But why doesn’t anyone think of that?
Why do we live in a world where pop culture rules,
Where the right clothes and appearance are crucial,
And why are we so disliked
If we step outside the laws of conformity?
I should be able to be myself,
Without being labeled or laughed at.
Is it such a crime to be different?
Many people believe so,
In our whirlwind world of negative stereotypes and prejudice.
We should all get to know each other,
Celebrate our diversity,
And accept our differences.
Is that so hard?
Are we really so unwilling to take the road to peace?
It is sad what our society has become.
Isn’t America supposed to be a nation of freedoms?

Layer it on,
Don’t be shy, sugar.
Pile that glaze of love
On my cake of peace.
Make sure it’s even,
Spread it all over.
Pile that glaze of love
On my cake of peace.
Try it a second time,
Make sure there’s enough.
Pile that glaze of love
On my cake of peace.
Let’s put it in the oven,
Serve it to the world,
Pile that glaze of love
On my cake of peace.

Candied Truth
If only we could
Candy truth.
And pass it around
One cent a candy.
The folks would come far and wide to eat
My candied truth.
Sweet and pure.
One cent a candy.
Everyone would love
My candied truth.
And feed it to the toddlers
One cent a candy.
One cent and you
Could find out who took your hairbrush with
My candied truth.
One cent a candy.
Once I had developed the method for
My candied truth
I could have a factory.
One cent a candy.
There would be great machines to make
My candied truth.
It would be very popular.
One cent a candy.
But alas!
My friend has made a better
Candy than I.
Candied lies.
One cent a candy.
But remember me and
My candied truth.
Maybe you will find the recipe for
One cent a candy.

Licorice Lie
I’ve caught you in your licorice lie,
Your cupcake deception.
I don’t trust you anymore.
I’ve caught you in your licorice lie,
Your candy coated tongue.
I won’t trust you anymore.
I’ve caught you in your licorice lie,
Your frosting falsehood.
I can’t trust you anymore.
I’ve caught you in your licorice lie,
Your donut distortion.
Why should I trust you anymore?
I’ve caught you in your licorice lie,
Your pluot purgery.
How can I trust you anymore?
I’ve caught you in your licorice lie,
Your flambe fabrication.
What can I trust you with anymore?
I’ve caught you in your licorice lie,
And I can’t trust you.

Dust
Piled with dust,
It all sits there.
Piled with dust,
It’ll never see the light.
Old yearbooks
That used to be his.
Costume jewelry
That was hers.
A tiny little award
He was ever so proud of.
A tiara
She wore to the prom.
All their stuff is gone.
In a pile of dust.

Why Did He Lie?
Why did he lie?
I thought I was his friend.
Why did he lie?
This friendship will come to an end.
Why did he lie?
I thought I knew him.
Why did he lie?
I thought I knew my little Jim.
Why?
I didn’t do anything to him.
I don’t deserve this.
Why did he lie?
