Words Have Power

Actions speak louder than words?
But for that person who heard

It burns like they set their hand on a stove.
Gossip can’t stop its nasty rove.

Drama is filling up the glass
Immersing my mass.

Watching in as words ride
I can run but I can’t hide.

I dive down a foxhole
Like a caged animal.

Nothing I can do about it for sure
It’s the one way ticket to popular

Just because you demean someone.
But you’ve just smashed their rising sun.

Words do hurt you do moan
It breaks you more than sticks and stones.

Actions are the better path to take
Don’t choose rumors for goodness sake!

    Dear Writeheart,
Your poem delivers a powerful message. I wish that you would share this with student advocacy. Perhaps they could incorporate a poetry writing experience into the civil rights program. This poem gives the perpetrator something to think about…maybe stopping to think about the power of words would make them reconsider. Appropriate title and worthy topic.

    Dear Writeheart,

Your poem, “Words Have Power,” was amazing. You captured the true image of peer pressure that goes on every day. You had overpowering word choice, “Gossip can’t stop its nasty rove.” Connecting to your poem, I have observed this happen to people as well, “Nothing I can do about it for sure, It’s the one way ticket to popular, Just because you demean someone.
But you’ve just smashed their rising sun.” Your voice is awe inspiring, “Actions are the better path to take, Don’t choose rumors for goodness sake!” You voiced your opinion extremely well. You should definitely become a writer or poet.
    Sincerely,

    Dear Writeheart,
This poem was great! I really enjoyed the message that you sent and it was very inspirational. I really like the sentence “Actions speak louder than words? But for that person who heard It burns like they set their hand on a stove. Gossip can’t stop its nasty rove.” I never thought of it like that. Super Job!
